After many years of wanting to sign up, but never having the time or effort, I am finally doing Movember.
Like most Octobers since turning eighteen, I spent the last few weeks considering whether or not I should join the charity fundraising phenomenon.
What pushed me over the edge this time was the realisation that in the last twelve months, for better or for worse, I am on show considerably more than I used to be.
Through Scout videos and my appearances of Premier League television and YouTube shows, people see more of this freckled face than they used to.
I considered that, even if I don’t particularly like the idea of shaving off my beard and looking rather stupid, if I could use my following to help raise more awareness and funds than I could have done previously, then I had a moral obligation to do so.
As much I really hate shaving, I’d rather spend a month hacking at my neck and jawline with a razor than struggle with the many problems that Movember helps men deal with.
Men’s health is a hugely important cause in our modern age, so the more any of us can do to get people talking about it the better.
